Leif Distad, JD
Leif is a Senior Counsel in the firm’s complex civil litigation group, and his practice covers product liability, 42 U.S.C. § 1983 excessive force, wrongful imprisonment, qualified immunity, and other constitutional claims, municipal liability, general liability, contract litigation, construction defect, motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, catastrophic injury, property loss, and personal injury claims.
Leif was integrally involved in handling and strategizing the defense of a complex negligence/product liability lawsuit in the Federal District Court for the District of Wyoming, with claimed damages in excess of $119 million dollars, arising out of a petroleum refinery explosion and resulting fire. This includes complex ESI, lay and expert witness depositions, management of expert disclosures, and dispositive motions. That dispute ultimately ended in summary judgment in favor of the defendants. He has appeared at hearings in State and Federal District Courts and successfully briefed an appeal to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals of a District Court’s denial of a Motion to Dismiss based on qualified immunity defense, resulting in a favorable reversal and published decision. He thrives on advocating the best interests of his clients through the day-to-day legal activities and management of complex cases.
Leif joined the CCRJ team in January 2021. Prior to becoming a part of CCRJ, Leif practiced with other prevalent law firms in the Denver area specializing in civil litigation defense.
Leif is an active member of the Colorado Bar and Wyoming Bar. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. States District Court for the District of Wyoming, and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Leif is from Northern Wyoming and spends his free time with his wife, their lab Kona, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors of both Colorado and Wyoming.
